Nice 2009

Students of Assumption College in Boston return to Cannes every other year to explore the French Riviera with Dr Anthony Zielonka. Other professors select us as their preferred partner for their Mayan Studies programs on the Yucatan Peninsular in Mexico.

ITINERARY

Day 1 March 01 - CANCUN
Arrive in Cancun, meet at airport and transfer to hotel Valladolid. Overnight at hotel Meson del Marques in Valladolid.

Day 2 March 02 - MERIDA
Breakfast at hotel - Drive to Mérida for a City tour in Mérida, a centre of culture in the Yucatan region even before the Conquistadors arrived.
Today it is a prosperous city of narrow streets, colonial buildings and shady parks. The Plaza Grande, as Main Square is called, has been the city centre since Mayan times. It is flanked by Mexico's oldest cathedral, and by the harmonious colonial edifices housing City Hall and Government Palace. The Paseo de Montejo was an attempt by the 19th c. city planners to create a wide boulevard similar to Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, which in turn was planned as a replica of the Champs Elysées in Paris. Some of the fine mansions inspired in European architecture built by wealthy families at the end of that century may still be seen alongside the paseo. Visit to the Archaeological museum. Drive to Celestun to watch the Flamingos. Back to Mérida for overnight at hotel Residencial.

Day 3 March 03 - UXMAL- KABAH-(OPTIONAL TOUR)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit the Archaeological zone of UXMAL the Dwarf's Pyramid, the Governor's Palace and the magnificent Nunnery Quadrangle, with its perfect geometrical, allegorical bas-reliefs, are considered among world's most beautiful buildings, alongside with such other famous architectural pieces de résistance as the Athens' Parthenon and the Taj-Mahal.. Continue to Kabah to visit the Archaeological Zone. Back to Mérida for overnight.

Day 4 March 04.- CHICHEN- ITZA
Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Chichen to visit of the Archaeological zone of Chichen- Itza that includes the classical Maya, as well as the Maya-Toltec sectors, with such famous landmarks as the Observatory, the Ball Game Court, Kukulcán Pyramid, and also the Hall of One Thousand Columns. The sacred site was one of the greatest Mayan centers of the Yucatan peninsula. The Maya and Toltec vision of the world and the universe is revealed in their stone monuments and artistic works. Overnight at hotel Chichen.

Day 5 March 05.- COBA- TULUM- CANCUN-
Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Coba which was one of the biggest cities for Mayas Culture and it is formed by 5 groups of big buildings Cobá, Nohoch Mul, Chumuc Mul, Macanxoc and Uxul-benuc. Drive to the Archaeological Zone of Tulum, the only well preserved Mayan site on the seashore, built on top of a cliff overlooking the immensity of the blue Caribbean Sea. The site is remarkable in many aspects, being one of the few pre-Hispanic cities on Mexican territory that is fully surrounded by a protective wall. We visit its main pyramid, El Castillo, as well as the intriguing Temple of the Descending God. Continuation to Cancun for overnight at hotel Flamingo.

Day 6 March 06.- CANCUN- XEL-HA- (OPTIONAL TOUR)
Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Sian Kaan and Xel-ha considered the world«s most spectacular aquarium. You are invited to embark on an aquatic adventure. Explorecreeks, lagoons natural wells and ancient caves fed by subterranean rivers flowing to Mexico's beautiful Caribbean Sea. Back to the hotel for overnight.

Day 7 March 07 CANCUN.
Breakfast at hotel. Free at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

Day 8 ar 08.- CANCUN-
Breakfast at hotel. Departure transfer to the airport.

PAYMENTS:

A deposit of $500.00 is due to reserve your space on this trip with a copy of your
passport (if available) and should be received before November 16.

Balance payment is due no later than December 14.

If you send your reservation after November 16, full payment should sent.

Since the Merchant Account service charges have not been included in the price of the trip if you wish to pay by VISA or Master Card or American Express a 3.5% bank fee will apply
on the amount paid with these credit cards.

CANCELLATIONS:

In case of cancellation penalties will apply. All cancellations must be advised in writing.

  • $150.00 processing fees are non refundable
  • An additional penalty of $ 200.00 (total $ 350.00) will apply if written cancellation is received between November 16 and December 14, 2007.
  • Penalty of 50% of the cost of the trip if written cancellation is received between Dec. 15, 2007 and January 16, 2008
  • Penalty of 100% of the cost of the trip if written cancellation is received after January 17, 2008, and in case of no-show.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that you avail yourself with travel insurance as a protection against these penalties. Please, check with Celestial Voyagers for travel insurance plans and premiums. Premiums vary with the age of the insured person.

The cancellation penalties must strictly apply. In case of cancellation for medical reasons penalties you will be covered under "ACCESS AMERICA" travel insurance. Pre-existing conditions are covered only if insurance has been submitted with your deposit. Check with Celestial Voyagers for coverage and premiums.
