ITINERARY

Monday, May 12, 2008 DEPARTURE
Depart by bus from Harrisburg Campus to Newark airport. Overnight flight with VIRGIN ATLANTIC

Tuesday, May 13 London
Arrive at Heathrow airport. Transfer with assistance by motor coach to International Student House, an ideally located hostel type accommodation centre near Regent's Park. The rooms are basic and practical, dormitory style, accommodating 4 or 5 people each. Afternoon city tour by bus with guide. Evening—London at Night.

Cultural Icon: London in the Modern Imagination
Why does London continue to fascinate the world? Visit Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Guard, the London Eye, Millennium Bridge, or the Diana Memorial.

Thursday, May 15 Ancient & Roman London
Discuss the development of London throughout history.
Attend a performing arts event in the evening (1)

Friday, May 16 Henries, Richards, and Edwards
Meet guide at Westminster Abbey for a tour of the Abbey then travel by riverboat to Hampton Court and visit the Palace.

Saturday, May 17 The British Arts and Culture
Visit Portobello Road Antiques Market, the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, the Tate Museum and Covent Garden.
Backstage tour of National Theatre
Attend a performing arts event in the evening. (2)

Sunday, May 18 Understanding Shakespeare’s Work
Morning: Lecture on Theatre and Theatre Criticism
Afternoon: Tour and Lecture at Globe Theatre

Monday, May 19 Shakespeare’s England
Full day excursion to Stratford on Avon. Guided tour: Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Ann Hathaway’s Cottage. Backstage tour of Swan Theatre and / or Courtyard Theatre, (subject to availability).
3:00pm performance at the RSC (3). Return to London after the show.

Tuesday, May 20 Stuart London
Guided tour: Visit the Banqueting House and St. Paul’s Cathedral, the iconographic building designed by Sir Christopher Wren.
Attend a performing arts event in the evening. (4)

Wednesday, May 21 Eighteenth-Century London
Visits to Ben Johnson’s House, the Soane Museum, and Benjamin Franklin’s London house.
Attend a performing arts event in the evening. (5)

Thursday, May 22 The Eighteenth-Century Mental World
Lecture: the British Enlightenment. Visit the British Museum and travel by riverboat to Greenwich to visit the Royal Observatory and the Queen’s House.

Friday, May 23 Jane Austen’s Britain and Dickens’ London
Walking tour of public and private spheres.
Discussion of gender issues in British literature, art and politics.
Evening walking tour of London pubs with literary associations.

Saturday, May 24 The Victorian World
Visit the Victoria and Albert Museum and Hyde Park

Sunday, May 25 Twentieth-Century London
Visit Churchill’s War Rooms, the Museum of the City of London

Monday, May 26 Research Presentations
Afternoon walking tour of “London and the Da Vinci Code”

Tuesday, May 27 RETURN
Transfer to Heathrow airport by motor coach with assistance.
Return flight to Newark. On arrival transfer by coach to return to Harrisburg.

PRICE of $2,755.00 INCLUDES:

  • Round trip flights out of Newark to London Heathrow with VIRGIN ATLANTIC
  • “Q” taxes for fuel surcharge @ $ 160.00 subject to adjustment
  • Airport taxes @ approximately $ 120.00, subject to adjustment at time of ticketing.
  • Coach transfers from Harrisburg Campus to Newark airport, and return.
  • 14 nights hotel accommodation at the International Student House in London. Rooms are dormitory style with 4 to 6 persons to a room.
  • Continental breakfast daily
  • Transport to/from London Heathrow to the International Student House
  • Guided tours and entrance fees as per the services highlighted in yellow.
  • 5 theatre tickets.
  • Compulsory Penn State insurance:
  • Supervision by Penn State faculty members.

THE PRICE OF $2755.00 DOES NOT INCLUDE:

  • Public transport: local trains and buses
  • All meals, except breakfast
  • Cost of personal items: phone, drinks, laundry, etc.
  • Optional travel insurance covering trip cancellation for medical reasons.
  • 3.5 percent Merchant Account fee on all amounts paid by Visa, Master Card or American Express credit card.
  • Passport & visa fee. Everyone needs a passport valid until November 27, 2008. If you are not an American citizen a visa may be required. Do not forget your green card to return to the U.S.!

TERMS & CONDITIONS

At Celestial Voyagers, our terms are based on contracts with airlines, hotels and other suppliers. The terms and stipulations mentioned below are related to these contracts and will be strictly enforced.

Deposit: $ 300.00 before November 14, 2007 of which $150.00 processing fee is non refundable.

For registrations after November 14, full payment will be due

Final payment due February 11, 2007

Late fee (due to possible air fare increase):
$ 100.00 or more, applicable for trip registration and/or balance payments received after March 25, 2008.

Cancellation penalties:
All cancellations must be received in writing.

  • $150.00 non refundable processing fee
  • Additional $150.00 for cancellations between November 14, 2007 and March 1, 2008
  • 50% of total price for cancellations between March 2nd and March 28, 2008
  • 100% of total price for cancellations on March 29 or later.

We strongly recommend that you avail yourself of travel insurance as protection against these penalties. Please check with Celestial Voyagers for travel insurance plans and premiums.

Travel documents will be sent to Penn State College and delivered by your professor.
If your documents have to be sent individually, you must submit your request with your address in writing; a $15.00 mailing fee will apply.
