ITINERARY

Day 1 Sunday, January 4     DEPARTURE
Depart from Kennedy airport with LAN. Flight # LA 531 to Lima leaves at 10:30pm. Check-in at Kennedy should be around 7:30pm.

Day 2 Monday, January 5     CUSCO
Arrive at Lima airport at 6:30am. Assistance at the airport. Connect with flight # LP 073 to Cusco leaving at 8:30am. Arrive in Cusco at 9:45am and transfer to your hotel. City tour in the afternoon. Visit the main square, the cathedral, the “Templo del Sol” or Coricancha, an important worship spot, the 12-angle stone and the colorful district of San Blas. You will also see the Sacsayhuaman fortress and its cyclopean wall, the Tambomachay, Quenco, Puca Pucara and Lanlacuyoc worship spots and the “Templo de la Luna” where some Andean religious practices are still held today. Lunch and dinner included.

Day 3 Tuesday, January 6     CUSCO MACHU PICCHU
Breakfast at hotel. Early in the morning, transfer to the railway station in order to take the train to Machu Picchu (a 3-hour trip, Backpackers service). Arrive in Aguas Calientes, where you will take a bus to Machu Picchu (2,350 meters high). You will visit the great archaeological ruins discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham. Lunch at a local restaurant. Dinner and overnight in Aguas Calientes.

Day 4 Wednesday, January 7     MACHU PICCHU CUSCO
Breakfast at hotel. Morning at leisure. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, return to Cusco by train. Overnight in Cusco.

Day 5 Thursday, January 8     CUSCO SACRED VALLEY
Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, you will travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Arrive in the village of Pisac. Visit the famous market, which is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays in the center of the village and where you can buy souvenirs. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the impressive fortress of Olantaytambo. Return to Cusco. Dinner and overnight in Cusco.

Day 6 Friday, January 9     CUSCO
Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the airport for your flight # LP 018 to Lima leaving Cusco at 9:30am. Arrive in Lima at 10:50am and transfer to your hotel. Lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon city tour. Visit the main square, the Government Palace, the City Hall of Lima and the Cathedral, where you will see the tomb of Francisco Pizarro, conqueror of Peru. Then visit the San Francisco convent, Miraflores and San Isidro, the modern districts of the Peruvian capital. Visit the Gold Museum where you will see one of the largest private collections in the world, including Pre-Inca and Inca precious stones and a varied collection of military guns and war tools. Visit the famous water sources. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 7 Saturday, January 10     RETURN
Breakfast at hotel. Morning excursion to Barranco and the National Museum. Remainder of the day at leisure. Farewell dinner in Miraflores prior to going to the airport. Flight # LA 530 leaves Lima for Kennedy at 11:50pm.

Day 8 Sunday, January 11     ARRIVAL JFK
Arrive in JFK at 7:30am and return to Harrisburg campus.

This price includes:

  • Round trip flights from JFK with LAN.
  • Airport and security taxes at $70.00 subject to increase and adjustment at time of ticketing.
  • “Q” tax for fuel surcharge at $500.00 subject to increase and adjustment at time of ticketing.
  • Private services with English speaking guide, entrance fees.
  • 7 nights accommodation in double room.
  • Train tickets to Machu Picchu (Backpackers category).
  • Park entrance to Machu Picchu.
  • Breakfast daily.
  • Lunch and dinner at local restaurant as per itinerary.
  • Supervision of Penn State Faculty.
  • Compulsory Penn State Health Insurance.

This price does not include:

  • Single room supplement - to be advised.
  • Cost of personal items such as phone, drinks, laundry, etc.
  • Meals other than specified.
  • Optional travel insurance.
  • Passport & visa fee.
    Everyone needs a passport valid until July 11, 2009. In case you are not an American citizen a visa may be required. A greencard is compulsory.

TRANSFERS CAMPUS / AIRPORT / CAMPUS

Transfers between Penn State Harrisburg campus and international airports such us Newark, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington Reagan, Washington Dulles and JFK are usually included in all our trips. However, as group size is unpredictable, the price of these transfers varies considerably according to the size of the group.

If a minimum of 25 paying passengers are registered for the trip, a coach will be provided and transfer costs are included in the trip price.
If less than 25 paying passengers are registered for the trip, either a supplement will apply for private transportation (maximum $50.00 each way) or public transportation will be consdered.

 Course Registration
 Course registration is separate. Upon receipt of your deposit, Celestial Voyagers will send you a receipt that you must present to register for the course.

 Trip Registration
 All participants planning to share a room must inform Celestial Voyagers of their roommate(s) name(s) when they  register for the trip. Failure to do  so may oblige Celestial Voyagers to assign you  different roommates.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

At Celestial Voyagers, our terms are based on contracts with airlines, hotels and other suppliers. The terms and stipulations mentioned below are bound by these contracts and will be strictly enforced.

Deposit $500.00
$150.00 is a non-refundable processing fee.
Your deposit will secure your reservation with the airline, the hotel and other suppliers. It must be sent with a copy of your passport as soon as your registration has been made online. Do not forget the optional travel insurance premium if you choose to purchase trip cancellation insurance with Access America.

The sooner you send your deposit, the better - if possible, prior to September 26, 2008.
After September 26, space may be available but very  limited. After group air space is sold out, a supplement may apply.

All payments by check to be made out to Celestial Voyagers escrow account.
For payments made after November 14, the group airfare no longer applies and price will increase based on the new airfare.

Balance due no later than November 14, 2008

Credit card payments
We accept Visa and Mastercard. Since merchant fees are not included in the price, should you wish to pay by credit card, a 3.5% supplement applies to the amount paid.

Cancellation:
All cancellations must be received in writing. In case of cancellation the following penalties will apply:

  • $150.00 processing fee if written cancellation is received prior to September 26, 2008.
  • $150.00 additional (total $300.00) if written cancellation is received between September 27, 2008 and November 14, 2008.
  • Penalty of 50% of the cost of the trip if written cancellation is received between November 15 and December 3, 2008.
  • Penalty of 100% of the cost of the trip if written cancellation is received after December 4, 2008 and in case of no-show.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that you avail yourself of travel insurance as protection against penalties as well as baggage damage and travel delays. Without insurance, if you cancel your trip within a few days of the departure date, the total value of the trip will not be refunded. Pre-existing medical conditions are covered only if the insurance registration has been submitted within 14 days of sending your deposit.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Travel documents will be sent to Penn State College and delivered by your professor. If your documents have to be sent individually, you must submit your request with your address in writing. A $20.00 mailing fee will apply.
