OVERVIEW

Viewing a few films presented at the 62nd film festival, sharing the boiling atmosphere of this famous Medierranean resort with stars and paparazzi will be part of a plethora of cultural interests that you will experience during 7 days on the French Riviera.

Family and/or friends of Penn State students, faculty and employees are welcome on our trips!

ITINERARY

DAY 1 SAT MAY 16 DEPARTURE

Departure from Philadelphia for an overnight flight to Nice, via Paris with AIR FRANCE.

DAY 2 SUN MAY 17 CANNES

On arrival transfer to the Ibis Hotel Cannes La Bocca. The Ibis Hotel is 40 minutes walk along the sea or, a one euro and 10 minute bus ride from Cannes City Centre.

DAY 3 MON MAY 18 CANNES

Movie projections will be available on a daily basis. The selection of movies, including English speaking movies will be known only upon arrival. All the suggested sightseeing excursions will be re-arranged depending on the movie calendar. Today, enjoy Cannes and the unique atmosphere of the Festival.

DAY 4 TUE MAY 19 CANNES

You may want to go by train and spend the day in Monaco. See the Rock with the Cathedral, The Prince Palace and the Oceanographic Museum. Then go to Monte Carlo, famous for its deluxe hotels and Casino.

DAY 5 WED MAY 20 CANNES

Movie projection and possible excursion to ANTIBES: the old town, the marina and its yachts, the market, the ramparts and the newly re-open Picasso Museum located in the Grimaldi Castle.

DAY 6 THU MAY 21 CANNES

Excursion to Vallauris, a small town known for its potters and Picasso's Peace Chapel.

DAY 7 FRI MAY 22 CANNES

Possible full day excursion to Nice: see the Flower Market, the Promenade des Anglais, the Old Town and the two great Museums dedicated to Matisse and Chagall.

DAY 8 SAT MAY 23 CANNES

Another day on the Riviera! You could either go to Vence and see Matisse Chapel, to St. Paul de Vence and see the Maeght Foundation or to Cagnes sur Mer for the Renoir Museum or you may just want to enjoy more movies and the Festival!

DAY 9 SUN MAY 24 RETURN

Transfer back to Nice airport for your flight returning to the US.

including $500.00 fuel surcharges.

All participants are required to have a valid passport and provide proof of medical insurance.


This price includes:

  • Air France flights from Philadelphia to Nice, via Paris.
  • Airport taxes and "Q" tax for fuel surcharge based on a total of $500.00 subject to increase and adjustment at time of ticketing.
  • Transfers from Nice International airport to Cannes La Bocca and return.
  • 7 nights accommodation at Hotel Ibis in Cannes La Bocca - double room.
  • Hotel taxes.
  • Program for a daily selection of movies presented at the film festival under the "Cinephile section".
  • Assistance of Faculty members.
  • Assistance of a French speaking tour manager.
  • Travel consultant services at all times.

This price does not include:

  • Single room supplement (subject to availability) + $875.00.
  • Cost of personal items such as phone, drinks, laundry, etc.
  • Meals (daily breakfast is available for 8 euros each, to be paid directly to the hotel).
  • Transportation to and from Philadelphia.
  • Compulsory Penn State insurance.
  • Optional travel insurance.
  • Passport & VISA FEE

Every American citizen needs a passport valid until November 25, 2009. A green card is compulsory for returning to the US.

Public transportation, entrance fees or guided tours for daily excursion escorted by French tour manager, as suggested in the itinerary. (These excursions will vary and will be re-scheduled, depending on the daily movie calendar which will be known only at arrival time in Cannes.)

Course Registration:
Course registration is separate. Upon receipt of your deposit, Celestial Voyagers will send you a receipt that you must present to register for the course.

PAYMENT (TERMS & CONDITIONS)

Deposit: $1,000 by check only. The sooner you send your deposit, the better - if possible, prior to December 12, 2008. Space may be available after December 12 but price is not guaranteed.


Balance due no later than February 15, 2009


All check payments to be made out to Celestial Voyagers escrow account. Your deposit secures your reservation with the airline, the hotel and other suppliers. It must be sent with a copy of your passport, the registration form and the optional travel insurance premium, should you choose to purchase it.


Credit card payments:
We accept Visa and Master Card. Since Merchant fees are not included in the package price, a 3.5% supplement applies if you wish to pay by credit card.

Cancellation:
All cancellations must be received in writing. The following penalties will apply:

  • $150.00 processing fee upon receipt of a written cancellation.
  • Deposit of $1,000.00 is non-refundable, but can be transferred on a new account if a replacement is provided. In case of transfer, the $150.00 processing fee will apply.
  • Penalty of 100% of the cost of the trip if written cancellation is received after February 15, 2009 and in case of a no-show.
  • Name change after February 15 is $250.00 minimum (plus $150.00 processing fee).

These policies will be strictly applied.
In case of cancellation due to medical emergency, penalties will be covered under ACCESS AMERICA travel insurance which may be purchased at an additional cost. Pre-existing conditions are covered only if insurance has been submitted and paid for with your deposit.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that you avail yourself of travel insurance as protection against penalties as well as baggage damage and travel delays. Without insurance, if you cancel your trip within a few days of the departure date, the total value of the trip will not be refunded. Pre-existing medical conditions are covered only if the insurance registration has been submitted within 14 days of sending your deposit.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Travel documents will be sent to Penn State College and delivered by your professor.

If your documents have to be sent individually, you must submit your request for this service in writing and supply your address. Somebody will need to be home to sign to receive the package and a $20.00 administration, handling and mailing fee applies.
