ITINERARY

DAY 1FRIDAY, MARCH 5DEPARTURE

Depart from Philadelphia airport to Guatemala City via Houston. Continue to Flores where you will spend the next 2 nights.

DAY 2SATURDAY, MARCH 6FLORES

Full day excursion to the Mayan ruins of Tikal. Coach transfer to Tikal for guided tour.

DAY 3SUNDAY, MARCH 7SANTIAGO

Morning flight to Guatemala City. Transfer to Lake Atitlan. Brief group meeting on arrival. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and evening meeting with Community Service coordinators Stay at the lovely Posada Santiago for the next 5 nights.

DAY 4MONDAY, MARCH 8SANTIAGO

Morning on-site orientation and commencement of Service Project. Early afternoon group meeting. Late afternoon and evening free.

DAY 5TUESDAY, MARCH 9SANTIAGO

On-site Service Project in the morning. Afternoon optional guided walking tour of Santiago. Evening free.

DAY 6WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10SANTIAGO

On-site Service project in the morning. Afternoon free.

DAY 7THURSDAY, MARCH 11SANTIAGO

On-site Service Project in the morning. Optional hike to ancient Mayan archeological site in the afternoon. Evening group gathering.

DAY 8FRIDAY, MARCH 12ANTIGUA

At noon, coach transfer to Antigua. Overnight at Hotel Aurora (or similar). Optional afternoon tour of Antigua. Evening free.

DAY 9SATURDAY, MARCH 13ANTIGUA

All day free in Antigua for sight-seeing., shopping or optional day trip to volcano.

DAY 10SUNDAY, MARCH 14RETURN

Transfer to Guatemala City airport for your return flight to Philadelphia via Houston.

  • Continental Airlines flights from Philadelphia to Guatemala City via Atlanta.
  • Taxes and surcharges at approximately $200.00 (subject to adjustment at time of ticketing)

This price does not include:

  • Tikal excursion by air + $350.00: including round trip airfare, transfers, guided tour and 2 nights hotel accommodation in Flores.
  • 2 nights hotel supplement in Guatemala City if you do not go to Tikal + $50.00
  • Single room supplement on request only.
  • Local and International departure taxes of approximately $10.00.

Every American citizen needs a passport valid until September 14, 2010. A Green Card or equivalent is compulsory for returning to the US.

COURSE REGISTRATION

Credit Courses:
A number of Penn State 3-credit courses, not requiring regular attendance at Brandywine campus, are offered in combination with all Brandywine International Studies trips. Approved full time students at all Penn State Campuses are eligible to take two courses (6 credits) at no additional cost. To establish eligibility at any Penn State campus, the student should obtain his/her adviser's permission to register then receive the confirmation of approval from the Brandywine DAA and from the teacher of the course. The courses may also be taken by non-Penn State students for transfer-credit, but in those cases the applicable tuition fee will apply.

Trip Registration versus Course Registration:
All travel arrangements are made through Celestial Voyagers, a fully insured tour operator. Do not contact Penn State professors or employees regarding flights, hotels or travel information. They may not have the very latest information.

PAYMENT (TERMS & CONDITIONS)

Deposit: $300.00 by check only upon reservation and before December 4, 2009.


Balance due no later than December 28, 2009


After December 4, 2009 full payment is due with registration.


Airline seats may be available until February 3, 2010. However, after December 28, 2009, airfare may increase and an additional $100.00 late fee will apply.

All check payments to be made out to Celestial Voyagers escrow account. Your deposit secures your reservation with the airline, the hotel and other suppliers. It must be sent with a copy of your passport, the registration form and the optional travel insurance premium, should you choose to purchase it.


Credit card payments:
We accept Visa and MasterCard. Since Merchant fees are not included in the package price, a 3.5% supplement applies if you wish to pay by credit card.

Cancellation:
All cancellations must be received in writing. The following penalties will apply:

  • $150.00 processing fee upon receipt of a written cancellation.
  • Penalty of 50% of the cost of the trip if written cancellation is received between January 4 and February 2, 2010.
  • Penalty of 100% of the cost of the trip if written cancellation is received on or after February 3, 2010 and in case of a no-show.

These policies will be strictly applied.
We strongly recommend that you avail yourself of travel insurance as protection against these penalties. Please check with HTH Travel Insurance for plans and premiums.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

All travelers on Penn State programs are required to purchase travel insurance through HTH Worldwide. Students will be sent enrollment information 2 weeks prior to departure. Non-students must purchase TravelGap or TripProtector from http://www.hthtravelinsurance.com.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Travel documents will be delivered at Penn State, Brandywine Campus, on Feb. 18, 2010 at 12:00 PM. It is most important to attend this meeting or send a substitute. If this is not possible, your professor(s) and Celestial Voyagers MUST be notified.

If your documents have to be sent individually, you must submit your request for this service in writing and supply your address. Somebody will need to be home to sign to receive the package and a $20.00 administration, handling and mailing fee applies.
