ITINERARY

DAY 1 THURSDAY MARCH 4 DEPARTURE
Depart from Newark airport with Continental Airlines flight CO87 leaving at 11:10AM. Check-in should be 3 hours prior to departure.
DAY 2 FRIDAY MARCH 5 SHANGHAI
Arrive in Shanghai Pudong airport at 2:55 PM. Local transport and assistance to go to hotel Express by Holiday Inn Putuo. Check-in at hotel for 4 nights. Remainder of the day to rest.
DAY 3 SATURDAY MARCH 6 SHANGHAI

Half day sightseeing tour with coach and guide for 5 hours. Entrance to Pudong New Development area. Entrance to Yu Garden. Visit the Bund and Old Street Jade Buddha Temple. Afternoon at leisure. Evening performance (7:30pm) for Protman Ritz acrobatic show (tickets and transfers provided).

DAY 4 SUNDAY MARCH 7 SHANGHAI
Moto coach at disposal for the whole day (4 hours) to do a professional visit. Afternoon at leisure.
DAY 5 MONDAY MARCH 8 SHANGHAI

Motor coach at disposal for the whole day (8 hours) to do a professional visit. Afternoon at leisure.

DAY 6 TUESDAY MARCH 9 SHANGHAI/XIAN
Transfer and assistance to go to the Pudong airport. Morning flight to Xian, economy class ticket, flight FM9201. Rates and schedule subject to change without notice. Assistance and transfer on arrival to go to the Grand New World Hotel in Xian. Guide and transportation to visit Xian (7.30 hour services). Entrance to Shaanxi History Museum. Entrance to movie. Xian-Lintong: entrance to Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Bronze Chariots and Horses. 8:00pm Tang Dynasty dinner show. Transfers are included.
DAY 7 WEDNESDAY MARCH 10 XIAN/BEIJING
Transportation and assistance for half day for a professional visit. Assistance and transfer to airport for flight to Beijing. Flight MU2129 economy class. Rates and schedule subject to change without notice. Assisatnce and transfer to Howard Johnson Paragon for 3 nights.
DAY 8 THURSDAY MARCH 11 BEIJING
Coach and assistance at disposal for the day.
DAY 9 FRIDAY MARCH 12  BEIJING
Morning excursion to the Great Wall. Guide and coach service for 11 hours. Cable car to the Great Wall. Afternoon sightseeing of Beijing, Tian'Anmen Square and the Forbidden City. Meeting with a local family for dinner.
DAY 10 SATURDAY MARCH 13  RETURN
Morning sightseeing. Entrance to Summer palace and Confucian Temple Complex. Guide and transportation availble for 5 hours. TOur will end at airport. Depart Beijing Continental CO88 leaving at 4pm.

Everyone needs a passport valid until September 13, 2010. If you are not an American citizen, a visa may be required. A Green Card is compulsory.

A visa is compulsory to all American citizens - www.china-embassy.org/eng  has complete information. The Office of International Programs plans to do a group registration in Janaury with students who register for the course. Details to follow.

 

COURSE REGISTRATION

 

Students planning to register for course credit should take the following steps to enroll:


1) Meet with your academic advisor to discuss how this course will impact your educational progress. If you determine that you will be taking the course for academic credit, have your advisor sign a drop/add form to add this class. Forms are available in W131 Olmsted.
2) Contact the travel agency to pay the deposit or total cost for the trip and obtain a receipt from the travel agency showing you have paid the deposit or cost of the trip.
3) Bring your signed drop/add form and your travel agency receipt, Registrar’s Office in Swatara Building to enroll in the course.


Course requirements will include mandatory pre-departure meetings during spring term, group reading, journals and a final project to be turned in after return.


Registration for the trip through Celestial Voyagers is necessary by December 2, 2010. After Dec. 2, space may be available but spullements and/or penalties may apply.


If you are an undergraduate honors student, there is scholarship money available through the honors program at Penn State Harrisburg. Please contact Dr. Oranee Tawatnuntachai for honors funding. In addition, the University has money for students traveling internationally.

China is a comlex nation with 20% of the world's population and an ever-growing role in worldwide globalization. WE need to understand this not-so-sleeping giant. This coourse will provide an introduction to the history, economy and political culture of this very influential country.

PAYMENT (TERMS & CONDITIONS)

Celestial Voyagers’ terms relate to contracts with airlines, hotels and other suppliers. The regulations below must be strictly enforced as they are related to these contracts.

 

Deposit $500 .00 due upon registration and before December 2, 2010


Balance due no later than  December 20, 2010

 

After December 2, full payment is due with registration

All check payments to be made out to Celestial Voyagers escrow account. Your deposit secures your  reservation with the airline, the hotel and other suppliers. It must be sent with a copy of your passport and the registration form.


Credit card payments:
We accept Visa and MasterCard. Since Merchant fees are not included in the package price, a 3.5% supplement applies should you wish to pay by credit card.

 

Cancellation:
All cancellations must be received in writing. The following penalties apply:

* $150.00 non-refundable processing fee

* $150.00 additional fee for cancellation received between December 2 and December 29

* Penalty of 50% of the total trip cost if cancellation is received between December 30, 2010 and january 17, 2011

* Penalty of 100% of the total trip cost if cancellation is received on or after January 18, 2011 and in case of a no-show.

These policies will be strictly applied.

 

TRANSFERS CAMPUS/AIRPORT/CAMPUS

Transfers between Penn State Harrisburg Campus and international departure airports such as Newark, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington Reagan, Washington Dulles or JFK are always included in our tour  price if the group has 25 passengers or more.


Should the group be smaller than 25, either you will be responsible for transportation or the Office of International Programs will charge you for a charter bus service to the airport. You will be notified if a charter service is planned and what the supplement will be.

 

TRAVEL INSURANCE

All travelers on Penn State programs are required to purchase travel insurance through HTH Worldwide. Students will be sent enrollment information 2 weeks prior to departure. Non-students must purchase TravelGap or TripProtector from http://www.hthtravelinsurance.com.

Travel documents will be sent to Penn State College and delivered by your professor.

 

If your documents have to be sent directly to you, you must submit your request for this service in writing and supply your address. Somebody will need to be home to sign for the package and a $20.00 administration, handling and mailing fee applies.
