ITINERARY

DAY 1 THURSDAY OCTOBER 7 DEPARTURE
Depart USA for an overnight flight to Beijing for those taking the pre/post tour extension. Air fare is not included. You can contact Celestial Voyagers for your flight reservation.
DAY 2 FRIDAY OCTOBER 8 BEIJING
Arrive in Beijing. Transfer to hotel Howard Johnson Paragon.
DAY 3 SATURDAY OCTOBER 9 BEIJING
Full day sightseeing is part of the pre-tour extension. Visit Tiananmen Square and the Fobidden City with its palaces, gardens and pavillions, the Temple of Heaven. The Silk Road program starts today with a transfer from the airport and an overnight at the hotel. Those who have visited Beijing before will arrive today.
DAY 4 SUNDAY OCTOBER 10 BEIJING/URUMQI (B, D)
Assistance and transfer to the airport for your flight to Urumqui, capital of Xinjiang Province and home to thirteen of China’s ethnic minorities. Assistance and transfer to Hotel Mirage Tower. Dinner at local restaurant.
DAY 5 MONDAY OCTOBER 11 URUMQI (B, L, D)
Excursion to Tianchi Lake. Visit local Kirghiz or Hazakh herdmen families. Visit the newly reopened Xinjiang Regional Museum, to view relics unearthed in the area. Afternoon at leisure and dinner at local restaurant.
DAY 6 TUESDAY OCOTBER 12 KASHGAR (B, L, D)
Economy class flight from Umrumqi to Kashgar. Transfer to Hotel Barony. Lunch at local restaurant. Your Kashgar sightseeing includes the Id Kah Mosque, the Tomb of Abakh Hoja and a visit to the bazaar. Dinner at local restaurant.
DAY 7 WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 13 URUMQI (B, L, D)
Morning at leisure. Lunch at local restaurant. Economy class flight from Kashgar to Urumqui. Return to Umruqi. Transfer to Hotel Mirage. Dinner at local restaurant.
DAY 8 THURSDAY OCTOBER 14 TURPAN (B, L, D)
Drive to Turpan, an oasis on the edge of a vast desert and an important station on the Silk Road. In Turpan, visit ancient Jiaohe, considered to be the oldest earthen city in the world, Karez Well and the Sugong Pagoda. Overnight at Hotel Huozhou. Dinner at local restaurant.
DAY 9 FRIDAY OCTOBER 15 TURPAN (B, L, D)
Full day sightseeing around Turpan. Visit Gaochang, an ancient walled outpost of the UIghurs deserted since 1275, then proceed to the Bezeklik Grottoe, a significant Buddhist site, and view the Flaming Mountains, a dramatic red limestone bluff famous in Chinese literature. Dinner at local restaurant before taking an overnight train to Dunhuang. Train has only one class.
DAY 10 SATURDAY OCTOBER 16 DUNHUANG (B, L, D)
Arrive at Liuyuan station. Transfer and breakfast at hotel. The western oasis of Dunhuang, a fabled point on the Silk Road is at the edge of the Gobi Desert. Visit the famous Mogao Grottoe containing thousands of murals, paintings and manuscripts marking the import of Buddhism from India. You will also visit Echoing Sand Mountain, Humming-Sandy Mountain and Crescent Spring. Lunch and dinner at local restaurants. Overnight at Hotel Dunhuang Binguan.
DAY 11 SUNDAY OCTOBER 17 JIAYUGUAN (B, L, D)
Drive from Dunhuang to Jiayuguan through the Jiayuguan Pass and the Great Wall. In Jiayuguan, visit the local museum and see the tomb murals of the Wei and Jin dynasties. Lunch and dinner at local restaurants. Overnight at Hotel Huayuan.
DAY 12 MONDAY OCTOBER 18 ZHANGYE (B, L, D)
Continue to Zhangye. Morning drive and afternoon sightseeing. Visit the huge Buddha Temple, the Wood Tower from the  Sui Dynasty, the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. Lunch and dinner at local restaurants. Overnight at Hotel Huachen International.
DAY 13 TUESDAY OCTOBER 19 ZHANGYE (B, L, D)
Drive to Xining. Lunch at local restaurant and enjoy the local sightseeing which includes the Dongguan Mosque. Lunch and dinner at local restaurants. Check-in for 2 nights at Hotel Tian Nian Ge.
DAY 14 WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 20 XI'AN (B, L, D)
In the morning visit Kumbum Monastery and Qinghai Lake. Afternoon at leisure. Lunch and dinner at local restaurants.
DAY 15 THURSDAY OCTOBER 21 XI'AN (B)
Early breakfast, airport transfer and economy class flight to Xian. Check-in at the Hotel Bell Tower for two nights. Once the largest city in China, Xi’an served as the capital to eleven dynasties. Visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum with its rich collection of ancient artifacts.
DAY 16 FRIDAY OCTOBER 22 XI'AN (B, D)
Full day guided tour. Morning visit to the legendary army of more than 7,500 painted terracotta warriors, some with horse drawn chariots, which were interred with the First Emperor of Qin for his protection. Aafternoon visit to the Great Wild Goose Pagoda Temple. Dinner-show in the evening representative of the Tang Dynasty.
DAY 17 SATURDAY OCTOBER 23 SHANGHAI (B)
Transfer to the airport. Economy class flight to Shanghai. This is the end of the Silk Road program. Upon arrival in Shanghai, you can take a connecting flight home. Should you want to stay and visit Shanghai, you can take the pre/post tour package: the half day guided tour of Shanghai includes the Bund, Nanjing Road, the Jade Buddha Temple and French Concession. Overnight at the Hotel Shanghai.
DAY 18 SUNDAY OCTOBER 24 RETURN (B)
Transfer to Pudong airport for your flight home.

PAYMENT (TERMS & CONDITIONS)

Celestial Voyagers’ terms and conditions relate to contracts with airlines, hotels and other suppliers. The regulations below will therefore be strictly enforced.


Deposit $500 due upon registration and before July 8, 2010


Balance due no later than August 6, 2010


After July 8 full payment is due with registration


All check payments to be made out to Celestial Voyagers escrow account. Your deposit secures your
reservation with the airline, the hotel and other suppliers. It must be sent with a copy of your passport
and the registration form.


Credit card payments:
We accept Visa and MasterCard. Since merchant fees are not included in the package price, should you wish to pay by this method, a supplement of 3.5 percent applies.


Cancellation:
All cancellations must be received in writing. The following penalties apply:


* $150 non-refundable processing fee
* Penalty of 50 percent of the total trip price if cancellation is received between August 7 and

  August 23, 2010
* Penalty of 100 percent of the total trip price if cancellation is received on or after August 24, 2010   and in case of a no-show.


These policies will be strictly applied.

 


 

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that you avail yourself of travel insurance as protection against penalties as well as baggage damage and travel delays. Without insurance, if you cancel your trip within a few days of the departure date, the total value of the trip will not be refunded.

 

Pre-existing medical conditions are covered only if the insurance registration has been submitted within 14 days of sending your deposit.
