Paris, France’s capital, is a major European city and a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture.

Its 19th-century cityscape is crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine. Beyond such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower and the 12th-century, Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral, the city is known for its cafe culture and designer boutiques along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

Daily Itinerary
Day 1 - Departure - Newark Airport
Friday, March 2nd, 2018

11:00 AM – Coach will leave Harrisburg Campus for Newark airport.
Check-in at United Airlines counter terminal C, should be no later than 3:45PM.
Flight UA#057 leaves for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, at 6:15 PM.

Day 2 - Paris - Paris
Saturday, March 3rd, 2018

7:35 AM – Arrive at CDG airport.

Assistance and transfer to your hotel combined with a guided orientation tour of Paris.  The guide will show you the main landmarks of the French capital and explain how to use public transportation, buy subway tickets, and exchange money.

Check-in at Ibis Style Paris Bercy is after 2:00 PM. You will be able to leave your luggage in storage if necessary. You will also receive an audio system that you will use for every morning-guided tour, during the week.
The Ibis Style Bercy is located in the 12th “arrondissement”  just 3 minutes walk from Metro Bercy where you can easily take lines 6 and 14.

3:00 PM Rental of Whisper service (delivery and pick-up will be made at the hotel)

Day 3 - Paris - Paris
Sunday, March 4th, 2018 | Meals: B

9:00 AM – Coach to meet the group at the hotel for a half day guided tour
Morning guided tour includes:
11:20 AM – The Arenes de Lutece

12:00 PM – The Pantheon photo stop (outside view and history only)
Place du Pantheon, 75005 Paris

Guide and coach services for 3:30 hours – Part of the tour will be walking.
Spend the afternoon exploring Paris on your own.

Day 4 - Paris - Paris

10:00 AM – Coach and guide to meet the group at the hotel

Morning guided tour includes:
Notre Dame Cathedral (no guiding inside the Cathedral – visit in silence) Walk 20 min from drop-off to Cathedral

12:00 PM – The Sainte Chapelle : entrance fees are included (only entrance is through the Court of Justice; must be aware of the waiting time on a day of trial.

At the end of the tour you will go by coach Porte de Clignancourt to stroll around the famous flea market (Marché aux Puces). It is only open on Sundays and Mondays. Collectors, tourists and antique dealers are all looking for bargains.

Day 5 - Paris - Paris
Tuesday, March 6th, 2018 | Meals: B

Morning guided excursion to Versailles.
9:00 AM – Your guide will meet you at the hotel to go to Versailles by private coach.
9:55 AM – Group reservation and entrance to the Palace are included. Time to see the gardens after the visit of the Royal Apartments. – Rental of whisper service for half day at Versailles.

01:50 PM – As you return, you will stop at the Museum of the Quai de Branly: the inside visit with guide: this will be an Art tour around the 5 continents. The gardens and the building have been designed by Jean Nouvel.

Day 6 - Paris - Paris

Guide will meet you at the hotel and you will leave by coach for the following visits:
Parc de la Villette: Cite de la Musique & Cite des Sciences et de l’Industrie (outside view and history)

The tour will end in Montmartre and you can either return to the hotel, or stay longer and return by public transportation.

Day 7 - Paris - Paris

Morning guided tour includes:
10: AM – Musee d’Orsay: entrance fee & audio guide are included – guide will meet the group

– Walk through the Tuileries Garden to see the statues of Maillol and reach

11:30 AM – the Orangerie de Tuileries, entrance fee is included – (Jardin Tuileries, 75001)
1:00 PM – Coach will take you from the Orangerie to the 16th arrondissement to visit

1:20 PM – the Musee Marmottan, (entrance fee is included) -(2 Rue Louis Boilly, 75016 Paris).

Rest of the afternoon free to explore Paris on your own.

Day 8 - Paris - Paris
Friday, March 9th, 2018 | Meals: B

9:00 AM – Coach and guide to meet the group at the hotel
Today’s visits are related to contemporary art. The visits include:
– A short walk in the streets of la Butte aux Cailles in the 13th district to see different murals and the famous “street art”. (special guide knowing the area may be necessary for this walking tour)
– The Louis Vuitton Foundation, entrance fee is included – (8 Avenue du Mahatma Gandhi, 75116 Paris)

12:15 PM – The Centre George Pompidou, entrance fee is included to see the permanent collection – (Place George-Pompidou, 75004 Paris).

After the tour you can return by coach to the hotel or you can visit on your own the area call “Le Marais” close to the Pompidou Centre.

Day 9 - Paris - Paris
Saturday, March 10th, 2018 | Meals: B D

Full day at leisure to see more of Paris, do some shopping, see another Art Museum, and finalize your academic work.
Farewell dinner with wine and show at La Bonne Franquette (or similar) to make this evening a very special experience -(18 Rue Saint-Rustique, 75018 Paris)

Day 10 - Return - Return
Sunday, March 11th, 2018 | Meals: B

Early breakfast and departure from the hotel

6:00 AM – your pick-up for transfer to Charles de Gaulle airport

Check-in at United counter at terminal 1, should be no later than 7:15 AM.

9:25 AM – Flight UA#56 leaves CDG and arrives in Newark at 1:25 PM.

1:25 PM – Upon arrival meet your driver and coach for your return back to the Harrisburg Campus.

  • Online: During your registration, you can submit your payment by e-check or by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover & American Express). There is a 3% service fee for all online payments. To avoid this fee, you can mail a check or money order.
  • Phone: We accept credit card & e-check payments by phone. Credit card payments incur a 3% service fee but there is no service fee for e-checks.
  • Post Mail: Your could also mail a paper check or a money order. Checks should be made payable to “Celestial Voyagers” and mailed to the address in the “Contact Us” section
Cancellations

In case of cancellation, penalties will apply.  All cancellations must be received in writing.

  • Written cancellation received before November 27, 2017 will incur a $150 fee ($150 processing fee).
  • Written cancellation received between December 1 – January 4, 2018 will incur a penalty of $500 (loss of full deposit).
  • Written cancellation received January 5 – January 15, 2018 will incur a penalty $1,375.00 (50 percent of the total trip cost).
  • Written cancellation received on or after January 15, 2017 or no-shows incur a penalty of 100 percent of the total trip cost – $2,750.

Course registration is separate from trip registration.

Upon receipt of your deposit, Celestial Voyagers will send you a receipt that you must present at the Penn State Harrisburg Registrar’s office to register for the course.

Notes

INART 199-001 or INART 499-001 (3 credits)

This course provides a brief overview of the history, art, architecture, religion, and culture of Paris, from its earliest days until the present time. Combining in-classroom lectures, onsite visits, and student research, the goal of the course is to provide the student with a basic understanding of the City of Light, including its history, its art, and its architecture. Free time will also be available for personal exploration to sample the food, the culture, and the vistas of this most interesting city.

COURSE REGISTRATION To register for course credit:

Meet with your academic adviser to discuss how this course will impact your educational progress. Have your adviser sign a drop/ add form to add this class. Forms are available at http://www. registrar.psu.edu/registration/dropping_courses.cfm.

Contact the travel agency (contact information on back panel) to make a deposit or pay the total cost of the trip and obtain a receipt. Take your signed drop/add form and travel agency receipt to the Office of the Registrar in the Swatara Building to complete enrollment.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

• Mandatory pre/post-trip meetings, group reading, journal, etc., during spring 2018 semester.

• Students must be free of any current conduct reviews or conduct sanctions. Eligibility will be verified, and each participant grants permission for verification by the Office of Student Conduct.

TRAVEL AWARDS

Award funds are available to undergraduate honors students through the Penn State Harrisburg Honors programs. The University also has funds for students traveling internationally. Trip price – $2,750 (double occupancy)

Single room supplement – $510

Deposit: $500

$150 of this is a non-refundable processing fee to Celestial Voyagers. Your deposit will assure your reservation with the airline, the hotel and other suppliers. The deposit must be sent with a copy of your passport as soon as you register online.

Send your deposit as soon as possible, prior to November 22, 2017. After this date, space may not be available and a supplement may apply.

Balance due no later than January 17, 2018.
